26% increase of hosted buyers at Detrop & Oenos Intense internationalisation with a 165% rise in international trade visitors The side events highlighted the future of food-beverage production

With a 26% increase in trade visitors, Detrop and Oenos, TIF-HELEXPO’s first ‘Just Go Zero’ exhibitions, recorded the needs and the innovations of the food and beverages market, from 18-20 February at the Thessaloniki International Exhibition Centre.

It should be noted that there was an 165% overall increase in international trade visitors, highlighting the intensifying internationalisation of the two exhibitions, which are focusing on Greek small and medium food and beverage enterprises, and the delicatessen products they export internationally.

Through a wealth of side events, the two exhibitions presented the entire spectrum of developments in some of the most important Greek foods that act as ambassadors for Greece abroad.

The innovation of Detrop and Oenos also became evident by the fact that they were the first ‘Just Go Zero Events’ of the national exhibition body, in partnership with Polygreen. The exhibition pavilions were equipped with infrastructure to soundly sort waste for the best possible recovery of materials, while exhibitors and visitors participated in the recycling effort.

At the same time, the two exhibitions also attracted 81 representatives of many major Greek industries and food-beverage enterprises, as well as retail chains, which received awards at the 2023 Food Experts’ Awards organised by Cibum, the Greek food expert website.

There was an enthusiastic response by the more than 135 international trade visitors from 19 countries, who met with the exhibitor-enterprises at Detrop-Oenos.

In a 15,000 sq.m. exhibition space the two events attracted more than 420 exhibitors from all over Greece, as well as from Hungary, Turkey, Saudi Arabia, Armenia, Italy, Poland, Romania, Bulgaria, and Cyprus. The

Region of Eastern Macedonia and Thrace was this year’s Honoured Region, while there were dynamic participations by the Regions of Central Macedonia, Western Macedonia, Thessaly, North Aegean, and South Aegean, as well as the Chambers of Commerce of Larissa, Halkidiki, Chania, Imathia, Pella, and the Chamber of Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Thessaloniki. In addition, startup companies participated in a specially designed space in pavilion 8, highlighting the pioneering entrepreneurial initiatives of the food and beverage sector.

Two of the stars of the side events of Detrop & Oenos were olives and olive oil, with the 1st Golden Olive Expo acting as a pole of attraction for visitors. Golden Olive Expo’s menu consisted of exhibition participations with olive and olive oil products and olive derived products, equipment and packaging, the B2B Lounge Area for targeted meetings between exhibitors and hosted buyers, the Open Stage Area for side events and colloquiums, and the Olive Bar, a space for olive oil tasting, food pairing, and networking. The ‘Olive Oil Trophy’ International Quality Competition for exceptional olive oils and the ‘Table Olives Trophy’ International Quality Table Olive Competition were also organised in the framework of Detrop & Oenos, with the participation of both Detrop exhibitors and sector enterprises from Greece and abroad. The competitions were organised by the prestigious ‘FILAIOS’ Friends of Olive Oil & Olives Association.

Attendance was high at the Detrop Bites & The Pairing Bar side events, a product of the partnership between TIF-HELEXPO and Chef Stories, with more than 1000 visitors to 20 different events and the participation of more than 80 producers. In the specially designed gastronomy space of pavilion 13 and the ‘Detrop Bites’ training and tasting dining area, visitors, including many international trade visitors, had the opportunity to try 14 different delicacies and watch product presentations by the Chef Stories team and the producers themselves.

There was also an international flare to the 12th International Culinary Competition of Southern Europe, organised by Culinary Professionals Greece in partnership with TIF-Helexpo and it is supported by Worldchefs, with 400 participants from 12 countries.

Lastly, the Hellenic Association of Food Technologists highlighted the Food Trends — innovative products and their producers — in a specially designed space at the exhibition, while it also organising a colloquium on security and food innovation.

The countdown to the ‘Agrothessaly’ Pan-Hellenic Fair for Agriculture and Livestock has started with the best of indications and messages for very high participation and attendance. The event is being organised by the Municipality of Larissa and TIF-HELEXPO from 2 to 5 March, in the Indoor Market of Neapoli, Larissa.

These were the messages of the Mayor of Larissa, Mr Apostolos Kalogiannis, and TIF-HELEXPO CEO, Dr Kyriakos Pozrikidis, during the signing of the memorandum for the expansion of the partnership between them.

Mr Kalogiannis referred to the excellent and effective partnership with TIF-HELEXPO, and noted that the municipal authority has already been proven right in deciding to pursue a partnership strategy with the most important exhibition event organiser in Greece, with a wealth of know-how and experience. He also stated that the review data from the two first events are an excellent indication: The 2015 exhibition, in its old form, had 80 participations and 8000 visitors. In 2017, when Agrothessaly was held for the first time, overall participations exploded to 498 and visitor numbers climbed to 40,000, while in 2019 overall participations increased to 780, with the exhibition area increasing by 5000 sq.m., from 20,000 sq.m. in 2017 to 25,000 sq.m.

In turn, the CEO of TIF-HELEXPO CEO, Dr Kyriakos Pozrikidis, was very positive with regard to the partnership with the municipal authority, the Municipal Council, and the city as a whole. “Larissa welcomed us with warmth and embraced the agreement”, he stressed, underlining that there is now a “civil partnership” with the city of Thessaly.

In fact, he also mentioned that the messages received are especially positive, with regard to both participation in the fair and its internationalisation, as companies from more than 35 countries and 250 international hosted buyers are expected to arrive at the Indoor Market of Neapoli.

Lastly, the role of Local Government and the informative colloquiums held throughout the Regional Unit of Larissa on the occasion of the exhibition, was highlighted by the deputy mayor for the Environment, Mr Panagiotis Ntais, while the signing of the memorandum was also attended by the head of the Agrothessaly event, TIF-HELEXPO executive, Mr Vassilis Spyrou

The Detrop & Oenos exhibitions are back; enhanced, innovative, and enriched with a wealth of side events. They will be held from 18 to 20 February at the Thessaloniki International Exhibition Centre.

This year the two events will cover a 15,000 sq.m. space and attract more than 420 exhibitors from all over Greece, as well as Hungary, Turkey, Saudi Arabia, Armenia, Italy, Poland, Romania, Bulgaria, and Cyprus. The Region of Eastern Macedonia and Thrace will be the this year’s Honoured Region, while there will be dynamic participations by the Regions of Central Macedonia, Western Macedonia, Thessaly, North Aegean, and South Aegean, as well as the Chambers of Commerce of Larissa, Halkidiki, Chania, Imathia, Pella, and the Chamber of Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Thessaloniki. Attending the two exhibitions will be 136 international trade visitors from 19 countries, including individual hosted buyers, as well as delegations from North Macedonia and Bulgaria.

However, there is a distinct innovation to Detrop & Oenos this year. They are the first TIF-HELEXPO trade fairs to be implemented under the ‘Just Go Zero Events’ scheme, in partnership with Polygreen. Just Go Zero-HELEXPO aims to transform exhibition pavilions into spaces for the sound sorting of waste for the best possible material recovery. The exhibitions’ waste will be collected into distinct flows, so that as much of it as possible can be sent to be recycled. At the end of the exhibitions, the total quantity of materials collected will be weighed and the results will be announced. In this framework, both visitors and exhibitors are invited to place their waste into the specifically indicated sorting stations.

This year, Detrop & Oenos will be framed by innovative events:

  • The best varieties of olives and olive oil, their producers, tastings, food pairings, and the award-winning and outward-looking products of Greek olive production are on the menu of Golden Olive Expo, a thematic section that will highlight the production and commercial potential of olives, as well as its prospects in international markets. Golden Olive Expo’s content will consist of exhibition participations with olive and olive oil products and derived products, equipment and packaging, the B2B Lounge Area for targeted meetings between exhibitors and hosted buyers, the Open Stage Area for side events and colloquiums, and the Olive Bar, a space for olive oil tasting, food pairing, and networking. The ‘Olive Oil Trophy’ International Quality Competition for exceptional olive oils and the ‘Table Olives Trophy’ International Quality Table Olive Competition will also be held at the same time, in which Detrop exhibitors and sector enterprises from Greece and abroad are eligible to participate. The competitions are being organised by the prestigious ‘FILAIOS’ Friends of Olive Oil & Olives Association.
  • The winners of the Food Experts’ Awards 2023 — the international innovation and excellence awards of the food and beverage sector organised by Cibum, the Greek food expert site — will be announced at a special ceremony to be held on 18 February in the framework of Detrop.
  • The International Culinary Competition of Southern Europe, organised by Culinary Professionals Greece in partnership with TIF-Helexpo, will also be held with the support of Worldchefs.
  • Detrop in partnership with Hellenic Association of Food Technologists (PETET), always aiming to promote the companies that are pursuing the development and improvement of their products, is offering selected companies the opportunity of highlighting these products in a specially designed space at the exhibition. ‘Food Trends’ visitors will have the chance to see innovative products up close and to be informed by expert scientists and sector professionals on new market trends. PETET is also organising a colloquium on food safety and innovation.
  • The side events also include Detrop Bites — where exhibitor products will be presented through ideal delicacy combinations, created live by the chef-partner team — and The Pairing Bar, where Oenos wines will be paired with Detrop exhibitor foods, for a unique tasting experience. Chef Stories is organising Detrop Bites and The Pairing Bar.

Detrop & Oenos will be opened on Saturday 18 February at 18:00 at pavilion 10 by the Minister of Rural Development and Food, Mr Giorgos Georgantas.

Zootechnia attracts 55,413 visitors – The place to be, for the agro-livestock sector

2023 started off with a bang for TIF-Helexpo, with the 12th ‘Zootechnia’ International Trade Fair on Livestock and Poultry attracting 55,413 visitors, from 2-5 February, at the Thessaloniki International Exhibition Centre.

The latest developments, innovations and technologies, as well as important food producing animal species, machinery, and services were presented at Zootechnia, which was one of the largest sector trade fairs to be held in recent years.

837 exhibitors (307 direct exhibitors from 13 countries and 530 indirect exhibitors from 38 countries) participated in the Trade Fair, which attracted hundreds of international trade visitors from 29 countries (Albania, Egypt, Poland, Tunisia, Belgium, N. Macedonia, Bulgaria, France, Germany, Jordan, Iraq, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Canada, China, Cyprus, Morocco, Great Britain, the Netherlands, Hungary, Palestine, Romania, Turkey, Sweden, Spain, Austria, Serbia, and Montenegro), among whom were individual hosted buyers, group visitors from Albania, Bulgaria, and North Macedonia, and one business delegation from Egypt.

There was intense interest in the colloquiums organised in the framework of the Zootechnia’s side events, with people filling the halls to capacity. The exhibitors were particularly pleased, noting the large number of visitors — especially trade visitors — and the international element — which opened up new horizons for Greek companies — among the positive elements of this year’s event.

From the side events, the 7th Pan-Hellenic Congress on Meat and Meat Products and the event on egg producing poultry farming and

Greek eggs, which was organised by the Animal Product Laboratory of the School of Veterinary Medicine of AUTh, with the support of TIF-Helexpo, also stood out.

The Pet Festival and the Horse Show contributed significantly to the success of the event.

The Horse Show in pavilion 17 was the major meeting point for horse lovers and sector professionals from Greece and the broader Balkan region. Entities and private individuals with more than 50 horses from all over Greece participated in a specially designed area, where they presented equestrian skills, harness racing, and various other events.

The Pet Festival was more varied than ever, with 5 thematic units and a large ‘Knowledge Amphitheatre’, while there were 300 individual dog participations from 74 separate breeds. The Dog Agility and Dog Dancing presentations, and the 88 beautiful cats, enchanted both young and old, while the aquarium, fowl, and reptile sections ensnared everyone’s attention. There was no lack of interest in the presentations and speeches at the ‘Knowledge Amphitheatre’.

The next Zootechnia will be held in 2025, while TIF-Helexpo has announced it’s next important date for the agro-livestock world: The 13th ‘Agrothessaly’ Pan-Hellenic Fair for Agriculture and Livestock will be held on 2-5 March 2023 in the city of Larissa
